23 Countries Where People Eat More Cheese Than Anywhere Else on Earth
America is nowhere near where you'd expect it to be on this list
by CheeseRank StaffJuly 31st, 2014
Americans love to eat cheese, but apparently they've got nothing on Europe. According to the International Dairy Federation, the average member of the European Union eats 17.2 kg of cheese a year, which is over 2.2kg (nearly 5 pounds) more than the average American. And that's just the average. The list above shows the countries where people consume the most cheese on a yearly basis, according to the IDF's most recent data from the conclusion of 2011. If you're a real cheese lover, you can probably guess who's number one — by a mile. But who eats the least cheese? As you might expect, the bottom of the list is populated largely by African and Asian nations, many of which typically don't include cheese in their traditional cuisine.
